I was born and brought up in South Shields and have lived here all my life. The majority of my family live and work here and my grandchildren go to school here. That is why I have a personal interest in making the area a decent place to live, work and enjoy family life. I am a Governor at Biddick Hall Infant and Junior schools. Within the community I am involved in Neighbourhood Watch, my local residents committee and various older persons groups. A lifelong Trade Union member I am currently involved in work to protect hard working families and retired people from the changes to benefits planned by this present Government along with their proposed changes to the National Health Service. I have a keen interest in the issue of Fuel poverty and believe it is shameful that in this day and age people have to make the choice between heating and eating. I work as part of a team with Councillors Ernest Gibson and Bill Brady to work for the people of Whiteleas and Parkside
